POLITICAL AWARENESS IN BILASPUR DISTRICT

Abstract [English]

The establishment of British rule in India led to internal conflict and division among Indians, which naturally led to an anti-British sentiment among Indians. Chhattisgarh was not untouched by this. Political awareness was taking root in Chhattisgarh. The Revolution of 1857 was its first and major attempt. "Although the 1857 rebellion by Indian soldiers was the first major step towards the freedom struggle, the British rule over Indians began through deceit and fraud. Therefore, it was natural for Indians to be angry with the British. This led to the beginning of the effort to end British rule." According to Pt. Sundarlal Sharma, "If the Revolution of 1857 had not occurred, the courage, drive, and vitality of Indians would have been destroyed, further boosting the morale of the British. Indians would have become like African tribesmen, just as the Europeans destroyed African culture and Europeanized it."

भारत में अंग्रेजी शासन की स्थापना से भारतीयांे मंे आपसी संघर्ष एवं फूट के कारण हुआ था जिससे भारतीय लोगो मंे अंग्रेजो के प्रति विरोधी प्रवृत्ति होना स्वभाविक था छत्तीसगढ़ इससे अछूता नही रहा। छत्तीसगढ़ मंे राजनैतिक जागरूकता की जड़े जमा रही थी। 1857 की क्रांति इसका प्रथम एवं बड़ा प्रयास था। ‘‘यद्यपि स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के लिए 1857 में भारतीय सैनिकों द्वारा पहली बार किया जाने वाला महाविद्रोह था। छल-कपट के माध्मम से ही भारतीयांे पर अंग्रेजों का शासन प्रारंभ हुआ। इसलिये अंग्रेजों के प्रति भारतीयांे का क्रुद्ध होना स्वभाविक था। इसी वजह से ब्रिटिश शासन को समाप्त करने का प्रयास प्रारंभ हुआ।‘‘ पं. सुंदरलाल शर्मा के अनुसार ‘‘यदि 1857 की क्रांति न हुई होती तो भारतीयांे में साहस अभियान व जीवन साम्यर्थ का अंत हो गया होता ताकि अंग्रेजों के मनोबल अधिक बढ़ गया होता। भारतीयों की स्थिति अफ्रीकी आदिवासियांे की तरह हो जाती जिस तरह यूरोपीयांे ने अफ्रीकी संस्कृति को समाप्त कर यूरोपीयकरण कर दिया।‘‘
