PRESERVATION OF THE GHARANA TRADITION IN MUSIC VERSUS MODERN INSTITUTIONAL TEACHING METHODS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract [English]

Before the Gharanas, the Guru-Shishya tradition has been prevalent in Indian classical music since ancient times, but in today's changing landscape, the essence of this long-standing tradition has been lost. We certainly need to reflect on each other to preserve our cultural heritage and foster a progressive future for music. Our generation has seen many artists who received education through the Gurukul system and have learned the experimental aspects of classical music from great artists. In the Guru-Shishya tradition, the Guru not only imparted music lessons but also imparted life's philosophy to the disciple, instilling in them various values ​​through this holistic philosophy. Nowadays, the Guru-Shishya relationship is considered greater than that of a father and son, and even the Guru has been elevated to the status of Brahma, above all other gods.

घरानों से पहले हमारे यहां प्राचीन काल से ही भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत में गुरू शिष्य परम्परा का ही घोतक रहा है परन्तु आज के बदलते स्वरूप में वर्षों से चली आ रही परम्परा का मूल अस्तित्व कहीं खो सा गया है। निश्चय ही हमे अपनी संस्कृति की धरोहर को बचाने के लिए परस्पर चिन्तन मनन करने की आवश्यकता है जिससे हम संगीत के प्रगतिशील भविष्य को संवार सके। हमारी पीढ़ी में ऐसे अनेको कलाकार हुए है जिन्हें गुरुकुल पद्धति से शिक्षा मिली है और महान कलाकारों से शास्त्रीय संगीत के प्रयोगात्मक पक्ष को भली भाँति सीखा। गुरू शिष्य परम्परा में गुरू केवल संगीत की शिक्षा ही नहीं बल्कि शिष्य को जीवन के दर्शन भी कराता था और सम्पूर्ण दर्शन से शिष्यों के भीतर विभिन्न संस्कार भी जागृत करता था । वर्तमान में जब गुरु शिष्य का सम्बन्ध पिता-पुत्र से बढ़कर माना जाता है यहाँ तक की समस्त देवताओं से ऊपर ब्रम्हा का स्थान भी गुरु को दिया गया।
